OH HOLY NIGHT!

Oh holy night! The stars are brightly shining. It is the night of the dear Savior's birth! Long lay the world in sin and error pining till He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn! Fall on your knees. Oh hear the angel voices. Oh night divine! Oh night when Christ was born. Oh night divine! Oh night divine, led by the light of Faith serenely beaming. With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand. So led by the light of a star sweetly gleaming, here come the Wise Men from the Orient land. The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger, in all our trials born to be our friend. Truly He taught us to love one another. His law is love and His gospel is peace. Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother and in His name all oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we. Let all within us praise His Holy Name. H.S.A. Announcement - We've extended the deadline to submit your recipes for "A Taste of St. Jerome" cookbook to Sunday, January 6, 2002. Hopefully, this will allow everyone time to jot down his/her favorite recipes on the Recipe Collection Cards and return them to the school office, or place them in the Recipe Card Collection Box located at the back of the church. YEARLY ENVELOPES The 2002 church envelopes are in the rear of the church. Please take yours. If you do not see your box, please let us know. Also, if you have changed your address, phone number, etc., please inform us so that we can keep our records up to date.

CROATIAN ALMANAC 2002 presents stories of prominent personalities in the fields of science, business, religion, art, and politics ( Vladimir Goss, Božidar Theodore Ivanuš, Martin Hrgovčić, Josip Novaković, Lynne Yelich, Janko Perić, Ekrem (Eck Spahich), Elvis Grbac, Anthony Petrušich, Karlo Mirth.) Based on extensive research by the Ethnic Institute in Chicago, a selection was made from among the two and a half million American and Canadian Croats, and from the many compatriots who have departed from this life. The result is that we have a number of extremely distinguished men and women to add to this series entitled "Outstanding American and Canadian Croats". This book can be purchased in our rectory for $15.00.

WE HAVE A PROBLEM... "Happy Holiday". First it was plural but now it has finally become the singular replacement for "Merry Christmas". Look around you. Whether you are watching Eyewitness News, buying a sweater at Old Navy, or simply grocery shopping at Dominick's, they just can't bring themselves to say the "C" word. The beautiful word that contains the formal title of the Savior of the entire world has been conspicuously removed from the vocabulary of the very people who want our money. Every other winter holiday has a proper name: Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and New Year's. The omission of Christmas is Orwellian. The use of the phrase "Happy Holiday" is "newspeak". IF YOU LOOK FOR ME AT CHRISTMAS, you won't need a special star. I'm no longer just in Bethlehem, I'm right there where you are. You may not be aware of Me amid the celebrations. You'll have to look beyond the stores and all the decorations. Yet, if you take a moment from your list of things to do, and listen to your heart, you'll find I'm waiting there for you. You're the one I want to be with. You're the reason that I came, and you'll find Me in the stillness as I'm whispering your name. Love, Jesus

A LETTER OF THANKS FROM THE CATHOLIC NEW WORLD "On the weekend of Sept. 29 - 30, parishes across the Archdiocese of Chicago were asked to support their Catholic Press. Your parish's response was one of those which warmed our hearts. Because of you, the important ministry of the Catholic Press - The Catholic New World and Chicago Catolico has received a strong boost. On behalf of the 100, 000 Catholic homes which receive either our English or Spanish editions, thank you!

EXTRA PARKING AVAILABLE The Old Neighborhood Italian American Club has very generously offered its parking lot on 30^th and Shields for use by our parishioners attending masses during the Christmas holy days and also on Sundays. We extend our sincere gratitude to the club for this gracious gesture of kindness.

BLESSING OF HOMES Our priests will be available to bless homes after Christmas. If you would like one of the priests to come to your home, please call the rectory to schedule a date and time for this beautiful Catholic tradition.
