WEEKLY
MEDITATION
According
to Christian tradition, Valentine lived
in Rome at the end of the 3rd century
during the time of the persecution of
Christians. He often attended Christian
gatherings in the catacombs where he
listened to the word of God and gained a
better knowledge of his faith. At those
meetings his desire to become a priest
grew. When he was ordained the Pope put
him in charge of charitable work. With a
lively faith and virtuous life, he was
an example of strong faith, showing the
pagans the way to Christ. Emperor
Claudius heard about him and tried to
persuade him to convert to the official
religion, promising to give Valentine a
major position in the realm. When
Valentine refused, he was imprisoned and
put to death in 370. Upon his death the
Pope proclaimed him a saint and martyr,
building a church and cemetery at his
grave site.
Traditionally St. Valentine is
considered the patron of lovers. His
name is synonymous with love. Love and
unity are dear to all, regardless of
one's stage in life. That is why St.
Valentine's Day is celebrated by all and
is, for everyone, a day of expressing
affection, heartfelt wishes, mutual
love, and devotion.

ST.
JEROME SCHOOL NEWS The
students of St. Jerome School recently
received report cards. We are extremely
proud to announce that 90% of our
children made the honor roll. This is a
wonderful accomplishment and a tribute
to our dedicated teaching staff.
Congratulations to all our students.
Keep up the good work!
St
Jerome School is now
accepting registration for the 2003-2004
school year. Families interested in
information or a tour of the school
should contact our principal, Mr. Peter
Trumblay, at 312-842-7668. Spread the
word on what a terrific school we have!
THANK
YOU A donation of $200.00 was
made in honor of St. Joseph for a favor
granted. This donation will be used
toward the restoration of our church. To
N. N. our gratitude and blessing.
THE
SICK OF OUR COMMUNITY Is
someone among our parishioners ill,
perhaps someone in your family? Please
let us know. We will be happy to visit
them and pray for them. As a community
of faith we are responsible for one
another. Please keep these parishioners
in your prayers: Evelyn Miloslavich,
Maryann Cubelic, Ante Zelic, Katherine
Gusich, JoAnn Passarelli, Mary Ann
Saracco, Ross Valenti.
CROATIAN-AMERICAN
RADIO CLUB is organizing a
concert featuring the popular Croatian
singer Nenad
Vetma. It will be held on
Saturday, February 22, at 7P.M. in our
parish hall. Admission is $25 and
tickets can be obtained at the door.
SACRED
GROUNDS After some masses in
our church we find that people have left
behind waste items such as kleenex, gum,
candy, and wrappers. Sometimes
children's toys remain. Please be
respectful of our house of worship and
keep it clean and neat. This week as we
reflect on the value of cleanliness, let
us keep our church in mind. Thank you
for your conscientiousness.
