Već drugu godinu Hrvatska župa
Sv. Jeronima organizira hrvatsku večer na poznatom stadionu
baseball kluba White Soxa, prvaka Amerike u ovom popularnom
sportu. Razlog ovog susreta je okupiti obitelji i prijatelje
zajedno. Te večeri predstavljena je hrvatska zajednica
grada Chicaga, Hrvatska škola i druge ustanove na glavnom
igralištu te na glavnom ekranu. Ugodno je te večeri biti
zajedno. I ove godine skupilo nas se oko 500 na večer
ugodnog zajedništva, laganog povjetarca, ugodnih pozdrava i
priznanja.
Hrvatska večer na Sox stadionu zadobiva svoju tradiciju
koja je sve ljepša. U nadi da će nam i dogodine biti
lijepo, dijelimo s vama nekoliko ugodnih slika.
St. Jerome Night at White Sox Park in Chicago, June 19, 2007
Again
this year like last year, St. Jerome Parish organized a
community event at the world-famous Chicago White Sox baseball
stadium, which is seven blocks south of St. Jerome's on
Princeton Avenue. The White Sox won baseball's World Series in
2005.
The main reason for this event was to
bring families and friends together as a community. An added
attraction this year was that our parish, our Cardinal Stepinac
School, and other organizations were featured on the baseball
field and on the giant electronic screen (or "Jumbotron").
Klub Stepinac members in their most colorful Croatian costumes
were introduced on the field (and on the giant screen) shortly
before the game, while an announcer read a short history of St.
Jerome's.
It was a beautiful evening to be
together. Nice temperatures, no rain, no sorching sun. And this
year there were 500 of us all sitting and mingling together -
good company, a light breeze, pleasant greetings and
conversations. (Last year we were more spread out; this year we
bought one large block of tickets.) Even the game was
interesting, but alas the Sox lost a close one in the final
inning.
A tradition has begun and is improving
from year to year. If you yourself were unable to attend,
we hope you will at least be able to enjoy these photos:
