WEEKLY
MEDITATION
ELEVEN SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
In
this setting we have our Lord sending his newly chosen
disciples, whom he selects from a general group, on a
trial mission at the very beginning of their ministry.
The scope of their activity is limited to looking after
their own people - a leaderless multitude who seem to
be lost and deprived of guidance. Christ takes pity on
their plight, because they are like sheep without a shepherd,
and turns His attention to alleviating their distress.
The ministry of these first disciples is gradually unfolded
and is one of mercy and forgiveness, accompanied by a
vast campaign of physical and spiritual healing. Their
role is to be active preachers who proclaim the saving
work of God. He gives them authority to expel unclean
spirits, and cure sickness and disease of every kind.
They are the powers that Christ exercises in His own ministry
when He goes about teaching and preaching in Galilee.
The strategy of Jesus for realizing His ideal of the kingdom
of heaven on earth is to employ His followers to proclaim
the saving activity of God. It is worth noting that even
though time is pressing and the loss of the harvest of
souls is imminent, Christ urges His disciples not just
to fling themselves headlong into activity, but to pray
that the Lord of the harvest will help them in their work.

THIS
WEEK'S SCHEDULE
WEDNESDAY:
Our movie series continues with the 2nd part of the biblical
film SAMSON at 7P.M. in the small hall.
THURSDAY:
Please join us for a Prayer Service Honoring Fathers on
Thursday, June 20, at 7:00 P.M. in our church. We are
honoring all "fathers" - biological, spiritual,
and all father-figures - both living and deceased. We
would like to pray for each individual man in our lives,
but as this would take far too long, an intention slip
is provided for you in the back of the church. You can
fill it out and put it into the basket in the rear of
the Church. These specific intentions will be presented
at the service, where they will remain on the altar for
one month and be remembered in prayer at every Mass. This
special event is sponsored by the Parish Council. There
will be a short rehearsal in church on Wednesday, June
19th at 7:30 P.M. for all the people involved in Thursday's
Prayer Service Honoring Fathers. Please, try to attend!
MASS
FOR DIVORCED CATHOLICS will be held on Sunday,
August 4 at 3:00P.M. at Queen of the Rosary Parish, 750
Elk Grove Boulevard, Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Francis
Cardinal George will be the celebrant.
21st
ANNIVERSARY OF THE APPARITIONS OF OUR LADY OF MEDjUGORJE
The priests and parishioners of St. Jerome invite everyone
to help honor and celebrate the 21st anniversary of the
apparitions Our Lady of Medjugorje to the six children
on Tuesday, June 25th, 2002 at 7:00 P.M. Recitation of
the Rosary is at 6 :30P.M. Immediately after mass the
dynamic Tim Staples, a nationally recognized apologist,
author, and radio personality, will dramatically recount
with humor and passion, his journey from Protestantism
to Catholicism.
90th
ANNIVERSARY INVITATIONS have been mailed to
all parishioners and friends. Please respond as to whether
or not you will be attending. This is indeed a special
occasion. Few parishes reach 90 years as successfully
and devotedly as ours. We are indebted to all those who
came before us and carried on the journey of faith. In
the spirit of thanksgiving and rejoicing we invite everyone
to join the celebration! If you have not received an invitation,
please let us know by calling the rectory.
ALL

SACRED
SPACE
Our church is our sacred space. It is a holy place; therefore,
we must respect it as such. Part of showing respect is
demonstrated by dressing appropriately for church. Please
dress modestly. Respect also means that we need to keep
our church clean. Please refrain from chewing gum in church,
and be careful not to leave any papers, wrappers ,etc.
Please remember to turn off your cell phones. Thank you
for your cooperation and carefulness!
OUR
90TH ANNIVERSARY. . .RECALLING OUR PAST
In 1954 our parish organized a Marian Congress. Croatians
from all over America and Canada participated. The solemn
celebration was held in our church on the feast of "Velika
Gospa". Fr. Dominic Mandic presided at the high mass.
