WEEKLY MEDITATION

The celebration of Mothers' Day is a celebration of their great love for us. Everything is possible because of a mother's love. We don't say mothers are perfect little angels, but we recognize the purity of their hearts in sharing what they have. We recognize the magic of a mother's heart. Like the Holy Spirit, they are always watching. Without overlooking their failures, our good memories of our mothers are part of the fabric of our lives. Like Paul and Barnabas, they do so much to keep faith alive. Paul and Barnabas were stoned and driven out but, just like our mothers, instead of complaining they talked about the blessings God had given them on their journey. Our mothers give us a foretaste of the new heaven and new earth of Revelation, urging us to have peace in our hearts and love for each other. Christ also commands us to love one another. He tells us to celebrate life and live each moment to the fullest. Eventually we will have to face the reality of parting and death. That is why we should celebrate now and not waste our time.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

MOTHER'S DAY APPEAL The annual Archdiocesan Catholic Charities Appeal parish collection will be taken today at all masses.

MOTHER'S DAY CELEBRATION Today Cardinal Stepinac Croatian School is preparing a luncheon and program after the 11 a.m. mass. Following the luncheon, the Croatian School children will honor their mothers with a special program.

SACRAMENT OF HOLY ORDERS On May 21, Bishop Josip Mrzljak from the Archdiocese of Zagreb will confer the sacrament of Holy Orders at Sacred Heart Church, here in Chicago. Four young Croatian Franciscans deacons will be ordained: Bozo Milic, Ignacije Aleric, Tomislav Sablje, and Stipe Renic. The mass will begin at 6 p.m. Please mark this date on your calendar and be present at this splendid occasion of ordination to the priesthood.

OUR NEW BISHOP A new bishop has been appointed for our vicariate (Vicariate V). We welcome Bishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller as our new Vicar. He will be officially welcomed on Friday, May 16, at a Mass and reception to be held at St. Rita H.S. beginning at 7 p.m.

SPECIAL MASS With the retirement of our beloved friend, Bishop John Gorman, a new bishop has been appointed for our Vicariate. He is Bishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller. On Tuesday, May 29, at 10 a.m., he will celebrate a special mass in our church for all of the 8th grade graduates from Council V 9A. We are pleased to have him here for the first time as our guest.

CONGRATULATIONS to our parishioner, Giggie Cortese, who was inducted into Chicago's Senior Citizens' Hall of Fame on May 6. We are proud that you have received this wonderful honor!

MASSES Please be advised that we already have a full schedule of masses for the months of May and June; therefore, no more masses will be scheduled during those 2 months. Thank you for your understanding.

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY "Relay for Life" Craft Fair Come join us for this special event on Saturday, May 31, at Nativity of Our Lord Parish from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. If anyone is interested in a craft table or would like to volunteer, please call Gina at 312 225 - 9063. Donations are welcome.

THE BRIDGEPORT CHORAL SOCIETY will present its Spring Concert on Sunday, May 25, at 4 p.m. in our church. They will perform the choral music of Beethoven, Byrd, Monteverdi, and Mozart, musically exploring the passion and resurrection of our Lord.
