WEEKLY MEDITATION

Jesus is the groom. This is also a frequent image used to depict God in the Old Testament. God regards his people as a husband regards his wife, or a man, his fiancee. This union is described as a bond of love, like marriage, or a wedding ceremony. The Church is the bride who longs to be with her groom. The groom is always welcome. That is the sign of a beloved person. He can be late, but he is always expected and welcomed. One always rejoices in his or her beloved. When the loved one is delayed, the longing for him intensifies and the happiness experienced upon his arrival is even greater. Today's Gospel speaks of this kind of expectation.
Jesus came as the promised Messiah. In the meantime, the Church marks the time between his Ascension and his Second Coming in continuous anticipation. The climax and culmination of the history of salvation and creation will be when Jesus comes again in glory. The Second Coming will be the final meeting of Christ the groom with his bride, the Church. From this perspective, every believer is betrothed to Jesus and awaits him together with the entire Church, full of yearning and joy. It is a time of love.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

We are grateful today to Fr. Zlatko Sudac for conducting a retreat as a special part of our parish's 90th anniversary. During this year we have tried to commemorate 90 years of parish community life with various spiritual events. We thank Fr. Sudac for his contribution to this growth and journey in faith. For witnessing with his life, and for his words and inspiration, we are truly appreciative. We also thank him for the painting of Cardinal Stepinac. Our gratitude, too, is extended to Fr. Ivan Kordic who accompanied Fr. Sudac, and to Ann Vucic for serving as interpreter.

• We wish to grow together in faith. Therefore, each month we will receive CATHOLIC UPDATE, a publication of the Franciscans from Cincinnati featuring major themes of our faith that are very often topics of conversation among us.
  
• In addition to that, next week you will find in our church pews the most important teachings of our faith from the newly revised Catechism of the Catholic Church.
• Early in December we will print the parish envelopes for 2003. Those who would like to become parishioners, but still have not registered, are asked to come to the rectory to register. If your address has changed, please notify us. Thank you.
• A calendar listing the activities for 2003 will be published next month. We ask that all parish clubs, societies, and our two schools notify us immediately of the activities and events they have scheduled for next year so that we can include them.

Today after 11 A.M. mass everyone is invited to enjoy refreshments in the school hall.

90th ANNIVERSARY VIDEO A set of 2 videos from the parish anniversary mass and banquet will be available this coming week. The set can be purchased at the rectory office for $20.

MARIAN SOCIETY - On November 24, the Marian Society will serve coffee and cake after the 9:30 A.M. Mass. They will also prepare a luncheon (donation $10) that will be served at 12 noon, following the 11 A.M. Mass. All proceeds will go towards the renovation of our church. Come and enjoy a delicious homemade meal!

HONOR ROLL STUDENTS We are proud to announce that Deanna R. De Grazia and Gina Balzano, graduates of our school, earned recognition on the B Honor Roll of Queen of Peace High School.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place every Thursday evening from 7 to 9. Come and visit Our Lord!
