WEEKLY MEDITATION

Today is "Good Shepherd Sunday." Every year at this point after Easter we have readings referring to Jesus the Good Shepherd. Coincidentally, today is also Education Sunday for the Annual Catholic Appeal. As we celebrate Jesus the Good Shepherd we are aware of the crisis of a shortage of shepherds in our world today. We are crying out for shepherds. Pray for vocations. Those prayers will be answered!

PLANS FOR VELIKA GOSPA - On Monday, April 22, there will be a meeting to discuss our "Velika Gospa" celebration for this year. It is important that all who will be involved in this traditional event, attend. The meeting will take place in the small hall at 7P.M.

THE NATIONAL ANTHEM will be performed by our parishioner, Mr. Nino Folino, at the Chicago White Sox game vs. Seattle on Tuesday, April 30, at 7:05 P.M. Congratulations, Nino! We are proud that you have the honor to open the game by singing our nation's hymn.

MEDJUGORJE VISIONARY Vicka Ivankovic will be the honored guest of our parish next month. Everyone is invited to attend a special mass at 7 P.M. on Tuesday, May 7, and have the opportunity to meet Vicka afterward.

THE EVIL OF INDIFFERENCE  "We cannot continue to live with fanaticism - and only we ourselves can stem it. How are we to do this? We must first fight indifference. Indifference to evil is the enemy of good, for indifference is the enemy of everything that exalts the honor of man. We fight indifference through education; we diminish it through compassion. The most efficient remedy? Memory. To remember means to recognize a time other than the present; to remember means to acknowledge the possibility of a dialogue. In recalling an event, I provoke its rebirth in me. In evoking a face, I place myself in relationship to it. In remembering a landscape, I oppose it to the walls that imprison me. The memory of an ancient joy or defeat is proof that nothing is definitive, nor is it irrevocable. To live through a catastrophe is bad; to forget it is worse. OUR 90TH ANNIVERSARY. . .RECALLING OUR PAST
The Society of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj - "Cudotvorna Gospa Sinjska" - was established on November 5, l906 in Chicago and legally recognized by the state on the 4th of January, l907. The purpose of this society was to provide assistance to its members in times of need, illness, and death. The following was the oath taken by all new members: "I, (name), promise before God and all His saints, and all members of this society, that I will perform all my duties correctly and conscientiously, and abide by all the laws and resolutions. So help me God, Amen."
