WEEKLY MEDITATION

On that early morning when the resurrected Jesus appeared before His friends and instructed them to spread the news of His resurrection, the source of our hope sprang forth. For centuries these refreshing waters gave drink to, and empowered all who accepted the message of the resurrection. We are invited not only to life after death, but to resurrect now from all that shackles us, enslaving us in this world. Every evil is like a chain tightening around us. Reject it!  Deception, lies, and violence are the means of evil. We can't allow it to take hold of us. The risen Christ and our faith in the resurrection isn't merely a promise of something that will come, or something that is supposed to come. It is already daily evident in a more beautiful and meaningful life. Easter motivates us to sing "alleluia", to give thanks to God in His majesty.  We rejoice because we have great reason to do so. May our joy be felt and embraced by all. We carry this joy in our lives because we are called to embrace it, and sent forth to share it!

LATE NIGHT CATECHISM IS COMING TO ST. JEROME The smash hit comedy play Late Night Catechism is coming to St. Jerome on Saturday, April 20th. Tickets are $25 each and include the show, coffee, and sweets &snacks afterward. There will also be a cash bar and raffles, too! CROATIAN AMERICAN ASSOCIATION MEETING on April 7th, 2002. The Croatian American Association-Illinois Chapter is having its annual membership meeting at the Croatian Cultural Center of Chicago starting at 2P.M. Everyone is welcome. The following topics comprise the main agenda: the course of action to help Croats in B-H gain their constituency rights; Croatian refugee crisis in Drvar; preparation for the Croatian Days on the Hill, (April 21-23) in Washington, D.C. PARISH COUNCIL MEETING The parish council meeting has been changed from Monday, April 1, to Monday, April 15 at 7:00 P.M.

THE FEAST OF DIVINE MERCY - The first Sunday after Easter is celebrated by many faithful Catholics as the Feast of Divine Mercy. This feast was announced by Jesus in a special way to Blessed Faustina Kowalska of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Each year many people observe this feast. When Jesus revealed this feast to Blessed Faustina, He said to her, "Whoever approaches the Fountain of Life on this day will be granted complete forgiveness of sins and punishment". In our church we will observe Divine Mercy on Sunday, April 7 at 6:00 P.M. with an hour of devotion.

THANK YOU to the members of our Marian Society who cleaned and readied our church for Holy Week. We sincerely appreciate their good works on behalf of our parish.

EASTER DONATIONS AND FLOWERS We express our sincere gratitude to all our parishioners for their generous Easter contributions and Easter flower donations to beautify our church during this holiest season.

BIBLE FILM SERIES We will begin a series of bible film presentations on Wednesday, April 3 at 7P.M. The first film is entitled "Abraham". We invite everyone, particularly parents and children, to watch this most interesting movie. Please come!

OUR 90TH ANNIVERSARY. . .RECALLING OUR PAST  - In May of 1928 Fr. Blaz Jerkovic became the pastor of St. Jerome. That same year the parish gained its first assistant, Fr. Gabro Cvitanovic. He served for only 13 days, and was succeeded by Fr. Ambrose Misetic who remained until 1930.

REST IN PEACE - Our good parishioner, Rose Alebić (81) passed away peacefully on Holy Thursday. Our deepest sympathy to her brothers Ante, Michael, John, nieces Mary Ellen Ratkovic, Ann Marie Varvodic, Joanne Ratkovic, Sharon Pinotti, nephew Michael Alebic, relatives, and friends. She will be waked Monday at Bridgeport Funeral Home. Her funeral mass will be at St. Jerome on Tuesday, April 2 at 10 A.M.
