WEEKLY MEDITATION

Today's gospel tells us clearly that Jesus offers us his Body and Blood as necessary spiritual food , and warns us of the consequences of not accepting the gift.  "If you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you will not have life in you." This admonition reveals the closeness of the union to which Christ calls us in every celebration of the Eucharist. There we are offered the life that Jesus shares with God the Father. Christ is not present on our altars simply for our adoration and admiration. He is present so that we can be perfectly united with him. Mass can be an empty pageant if it is confined to one hour in the church each weekend and doesn't flow into the rest of our lives. Unless we have our hearts set on drawing closer and becoming more like Christ, we can end up leading a pagan life tinged with Christian practices. Receiving the Eucharist is meaningless and profitless if we fail to live what we celebrate. We must take our religion out of the church with us and bring it into the market place. It is one thing to speak of our faith, but quite another to actually live it.  That is the crucial difference!

Our most sincere thanks to everyone who participated in the major annual event of our parish, the holy day of Velika Gospa --- those who gave of their time and talent, those who worked untiringly preparing for the feast, and those who worked on the day of the feast. Thanks, too, to those who bought or sold our raffle tickets. We also thank your friends, neighbors, and all whom you brought to celebrate with us. Thank you for attending our Novena, and helping our parish with your gifts and donations for this special day. Our gratitude goes out to all who, in any way, were a part of our celebration of this holy day, Velika Gospa. You made this feast a wonderful celebration. God bless you for continuing the unique and precious St. Jerome tradition of honoring Our Lady on August 15.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

MISSIONARY IN OUR PARISH COMMUNITY - Each summer we welcome a guest missionary to our parish.  Next weekend our guest will be a missionary from one of the religious communities. At each of the masses he will speak about the status and needs of the missions.

REGISTERED PARISHIONERS Are you a registered parishioner?  Do you receive our parish mailings? Are you an active member of our parish?  If the answer to any of these questions is "no", then please come to see us at the rectory!  Thank you!

WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES - If you are celebrating a special anniversary year (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30.....50) please let us know.  A special wedding anniversary mass will be celebrated in our church on Sunday, September 21, at 9:30 a.m.

PARISH PHOTO ALBUM - Later this year we will undertake the project of compiling a parish family photo album. Over several weeks time, beginning on September 28th, a professional photographer will come to our parish to take pictures of our parishioners. More information about this project will be given next month.

FASHION SHOW - St. Jerome School is hosting our annual Fashion Show on Wednesday, September 24, at 6 PM at the Martinique in Evergreen Park. Tickets are $30 each, and include dinner and an open bar.  Please contact Pauline Dengler at 773-268-3859, Denise Bertucci at 312-842-8551 or Jan Ferro at 312-225-9751 for tickets. Bus transportation will be available. More will be forthcoming.

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT takes place each Thursday evening from 7 to 9 in our church. All are invited to come and adore Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. To have time for God and to give ourselves to Him is an important expression of our faith. He relishes our company!
