Being A Christian

In today's first reading, Isaiah claims that the time has come to bring together the people of every language and nation, and to show them God's glory. In the gospel of today, Christ proclaims that "people will come from all the nations to feast in God's kingdom."  It is very clear from the New Testament that Christ came for the salvation of all people. In Matthew 24, Jesus speaks of the "chosen from all over the earth."  In his final prayer to His Father at the Last Supper, Jesus asks His Father to grant unity to all His followers, saying "I want my followers to be one with each other, just as I am one with You, and You are one with Me."  In his final mandate to His disciples just before His Ascension, Jesus ordered His disciples to "baptize the entire world."  It is clear that Jesus wanted unity in His Church based on the unity of the Father and Himself, or,  as Paul writes in Ephesians: one Lord, one faith, and one baptism.  At the Vatican II Council, the restoration of unity among all Christians was one of the principal concerns of the Church leaders: "Christ founded one Church and one Church only. In recent times He has begun to bestow more generously upon divided Christians,  remorse over their divisions and longing for unity."  Our present Pope has made it his strongest ambition to foster unity, especially among Christians. Despite much opposition, he visited Greece and the Orthodox churches of the Ukraine.  He has traveled to Cuba, which has lost its Christian identity to Communism. He recently met with the  Archbishop of Canterbury.  Yet,  despite his age, he has future plans to visit foreign countries, primarily for the purpose of unity.  It is our Christian duty to strive towards unity, to bring Christ to our neighbors, to bear witness, and to be a good example.  We must understand that being a Christian is not a membership in an organization.  It is vocation.  It is the obligation of the heart.

Journey......

It is toward You, God, that I journey forward.  Love builds me, and love builds the church.  For what can compare to love?  It is a treasure that fills the heart.  It is a smile in the storm.  It is a rainbow in the rain.  Love always extends itself, like a path leading to the heart.  Even in suffering I see love.  For You, God,  are love, a true and faithful friend.  Light the path before me and always be at my side.  For the closer I get to You, Lord, the more I wish to be with You, and holy, holy is Your way.

Dear Fr.  Jozo...

We thank you for your goodness which has inspired us, your selfless time and effort, and your genuine dedication to our parish and our school.  You have truly cared for the people the Lord entrusted to you during your 4 years as our  pastor.  For all that you have done to serve St. Jerome Parish, especially   undertaking  the  major restoration of the church, we are grateful.  May God bestow  every blessing upon you!  Thank you, Fr.  Jozo.  We will miss you. Dear parishioners, a farewell buffet reception for Fr.  Jozo Grubisic is being  held today, Sunday, August 26 from 12:30 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. in our school hall.  As of Aug. 30th,  Fr. Jozo has been reassigned to St. Leopold Mandic Parish in London, Ontario, Canada.  Please join us to bid him farewell.
