WEEKLY MEDITATION

In You, O Lord, I trust!

This Sunday we commemorate the 43rd anniversary of the death of Blessed Cardinal Aloysius Stepinac. His life, sacrifice, and fidelity to the Gospel, humanity, and his homeland remain treasures of our Croatian people and our universal Catholic Church. We are familiar with his life, his words, and his principles. Stepinac is one of the greatest figures of the 20th century, who was and will always be an inspiration to all generations of all times.
That is what saints are like! They are simply a gift of God to a people or a community. The name of our Cardinal is eternal. Although many tried to besmirch his reputation and accuse him of crimes, although the corrupt of the world and of politics were against him, he triumphed in the end. He upheld the motto, words of Jesus, which he kept in his heart: "You are not of this world." All great people demonstrate by their deeds that they are not merely of human origin, not simply temporal beings, not just products of common politics, but immortal, eternal souls.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

ART EXHIBIT A young artist from our community, Francis Penavic, will hold an exhibit of his work beginning Friday, February 28 in the small hall. Francis graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago. This special display will include drawings and paintings. More details will be forthcoming.

RECOMMENDED VIEWING If you are truly interested in one of the greatest problems of American public morals and our legal system, manifested by the problematic issue of the death penalty, we recommend that you see the play "The Exonerated". It is now being performed at the well known Shubert Theater (22 W. Monroe). Among the cast are the popular actors Brian Dennehy and Marlo Thomas. The play includes the actual testimony of former death row inmates.

THE SICK OF OUR COMMUNITY Is someone among our parishioners ill, perhaps someone in your family?   Please let us know. We will be happy to visit them and pray for them.  As a community of faith we are responsible for one another.

MT. CARMEL H.S. HONOR ROLL Congratulations to Daniel Hrvojevic and Tomislav Rogic, graduates of St. Jerome School, who achieved honor roll status!

FEAST OF CARDINAL STEPINAC Today, the 11 A.M. mass will be celebrated in honor of Bl. Stepinac. Afterwards a program and banquet will be held in our school hall. ($20 adults; $10 children under 12 ) All are welcome!

ST. JEROME'S HSA is sponsoring a St. Valentine's Day Dinner Dance on Saturday, February 15 at 7:00 PM. Cost is $15 per person which includes buffet dinner and dancing. A cash bar will be available. For tickets or additional information, please contact Toni Mitchell at 312 842 - 3180.
