WEEKLY MEDITATION

In today's Gospel we confront the mystery of forgiveness. The Gospel message for us is that in the depths of our conscience it is not enough to merely dismiss our human faults and simply forget them. The Gospel speaks of the need to explicitly and personally express forgiveness. It is most worthy to forgive those closest to you when they hurt you. Our conscience lets us know when all is not right. Forgiveness truly heals and creates the opportunity for a new beginning.

The source of forgiveness is in the glorified Christ who sits at the right hand of the Father and intercedes for us. He possesses all power in heaven and on earth. This is the power of which Christ speaks when He answers the onlookers mentioned in today's scripture reading. The forgiveness of sins is interwoven with the account of the cure of the paralytic. This means that the one who possesses the power of God to effect physical cures has also the authority to forgive sins. Physical healing was not Christ's mission on earth. The physical cure was more a sign of reconciliation. The forgiveness of sins is the true act of salvation and recovery that results from the healing power of God.

ARTWORK EXHIBIT The work of two artists from our parish community will be on display on the second floor of our small hall for your viewing pleasure. This very interesting show of talent will begin on Friday, February 28 at 7 P.M. and continue through March 2.
One of the artists is Francis Penavic, who was born in Chicago in 1974 and has pursued art from an early age. Living in urban surroundings during his youth left an impression on him that influenced his work. He studied art in high school and college where he realized that the urban quality in his work had now become his subject matter. Since his graduation from the Art Institute of Chicago in l998 he has concentrated on studying color and form. Most of his work in this show was done in 2001 and 2002. The other artist is our parishioner, Ivica Kuhtic, a sculptor. Several of his pieces will be on display. Come and enjoy these wonderful works of art.

SPECIAL FAMILY MASS is at 9:30 A.M. today. We ask that all parents please participate in these regularly scheduled family masses prepared by our children. Please honor and respect Sunday mass. It is the most important way to teach your children this principle of our faith. Attending this special mass with your children means so much. Please take the Sunday mass obligation seriously. Through the liturgy our families gather together as a parish community. Don't forget that the family that prays together stays together!

SACRED GROUNDS - After some masses in our church we find that people have left behind waste items such as tissues, gum, candy, and wrappers. Sometimes children's toys remain. Please be respectful of our house of worship and keep it clean and neat. Thank you for your conscientiousness.
