Of course every parent answers "yes"!

The "yes" is a yes to ensuring that the small child grows up knowing how to love God and love all people. Learning to love is not something you get from a book B learning to love is something "caught". The child "catches" it from his parents.  So, in the end, the "yes" that parents say at the baptism of their child is a "yes" to living out their own lives as lives of love for God, each other, and all people.  They fulfill their baptismal promises by living lives of love so that their child may see love, grasp love, and become one who also lives a life of love.

LECTURE SERIES We are happy to announce a monthly lecture series to be held on the third Friday of every month at 7P.M. The first lecture will be held this week, on Friday, January 18th, and is entitled HEAVEN-HELL-PURGATORY: WHERE ARE YOU GOING? It will be given by Fr. Mike Yakaitis, Ph.D., from the University of Chicago. This is a very intriguing topic for many of us. Fr. Mike is an eloquent speaker, and you will also have a chance to ask questions. The lecture will be held in the Small Hall behind the church. Throughout the series we will be presenting various topics of concern in today's world, particularly regarding family life. Come and take advantage of this special event!

ST. JEROME SCHOOL NEWS "Catholic Schools Week" Coming in January !!!
This year's Catholic Schools Week theme is "Where Faith and Knowledge Meet". St. Jerome School certainly exemplifies that theme and we invite you to participate in our week long observance. Each day beginning on Sunday, January 27, 2002, our students, teachers, and volunteers will celebrate our school's meeting of faith and knowledge in our parish, community, and nation. Watch for details in the next few weeks. If you would like to help us celebrate, please call the school office. Volunteers are welcome!

PRAYER This prayer was found in the pocket of Fr. Michael Judge, the NYC Fire Dept. chaplain who died in the World Trade Center: Lord, take me where You want me to go;Let me meet whom You want me to meet;Tell me what You want me to say, and Keep me out of Your way.

MAGI'S GIFT MIGHT COMBAT CANCER A discovery unveiled at Rutgers University offers scientific proof that at least one of the 3 men who brought gifts to Jesus was wise indeed. Myrrh, a fragrant resin identified in the Bible as one of the 3 gifts of the Magi, contains a potent cancer-fighting compound, researchers have found. Myrrh is the dried resin of a thorn-studded tree that grows in the Middle East and China.

BLESSING OF HOMES Our priests are available to bless homes. If you would like one of the priests to come to your home, please call the rectory to schedule a date and time for this beautiful Catholic tradition.

H.S.A. ANNOUNCEMENTS   More recipes are still needed before we can begin the publication of "A Taste of St. Jerome" cookbook. Won't you please take a few moments and jot down your favorite recipe on the Recipe Collection Cards? You can return them to the school office, or place them in the Recipe Card Collection Box located at the back of the church. Thank you!Questions ? Contact Kathy Sarkauskas at 773-376-0622.

LUNCHEON IN OUR HALL This Sunday, January 13, the MARIAN SOCIETY of our parish will serve a homemade meal in our hall at 12:30 P.M. All proceeds will go toward the restoration of our church. Donation is $10.00. All are welcome to come and enjoy this benefit dinner.

NEWLY BAPTIZED Today Lily Marie Lisnic, daughter of Peter and Frances (Norlock) Lisnic, received the sacrament of Baptism. The godparents are John Hoffman and Kathryn Norlock. Congratulations!

ALTAR ANGELS Our parish was recently given 2 beautiful angels that now grace our altar, kneeling on either side of the tabernacle. They are the gifts of Ken and Jan Zekich. We wholeheartedly thank them for their kindness and generosity to our parish, and their desire to enhance the beauty of our church.

CHURCH CONTRIBUTIONS Beginning this week you can obtain proof of your 2001 church contribution for tax purposes, etc., at the rectory. We extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude for all of the contributions to our parish and the church restoration fund, and for all that was done for the St. Jerome community during 2001.
