WEEKLY
MEDITATION
"Reform
your lives! The kingdom of heaven is
at hand." These words of Jesus
warn us against sleeping our lives
away, against spiritual laziness. Like
headlines about a disaster on
the front page of the newspaper, the
words and actions of Jesus are urgent
and often unsettling. Our Lord makes
it clear that we cannot afford
confusion about where we are heading.
We must realize that our words and
actions of each day, of every moment,
have eternal significance. Sin is
incompatible with the Gospel, but
Christianity is not a science of
escaping as much punishment as
possible in the hands of an angry God
by strict observance of the rules.
Christianity is about a relationship
more important than all others. Our
faith should be our very life, more
precious than all other things. We
should pray that our lives will be a
gift that we return to the Lord in
ever greater generosity as we follow
our call to heroic holiness. If we
cannot say this is true, then we are
not the Christians our Lord calls us
to be. If we realize that the stakes
are eternal, then the words of Christ
will not be lost upon us. We will take
His words and teachings to heart, as
spirit and life. "Reform your
lives."

Lecture
Series #2: CATHOLIC
UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE
Did anyone ever come up to you and
start rattling off verses from the
Bible? Do you ever feel that
they know more about the Bible than
you? Do you wonder exactly how the
Bible is viewed by Catholics? Well, if
this sounds interesting to you, then
we have an opportunity for you to get
some answers. On Friday evening,
February 15th, at 7:00 P.M. we ill
continue our special 90th Anniversary
Lecture Series. Father Michael
Yakaitis from the University of
Chicago will explain how the Bible has
been understood by Catholics through
the centuries. Please bring your Bible
and your questions. You will begin to
see that you don=t need to have the
Bible memorized to follow the Word of
God.
CATHOLIC
YOUTH RALLY During this,
our 90th anniversary year, we are
trying to offer and include activities
for all age groups of our
parishioners; therefore, we encourage
our teenagers to attend the following
event. The Youth Ministry Office of
the Archdiocese of Chicago is
sponsoring "UNITED AT THE CROSS
ROAD", a day of celebration
filled with music, diversity, fun, and
prayer on Sunday, Feb. 10 from Noon
- 9P.M. at De La Salle High
School. Pre-registration: $15.00. Call
Youth Ministry Office for more
information: 312/491-3535.
FEAST
DAY OF CARDINAL STEPINAC On
Sunday, February 10, at the 11 A.M.
Croatian mass we will remember the
late Blessed Aloysius Stepinac and all
the martyred priests, brothers, and
sisters. After mass a short program
sponsored by the Croatian School and
the Cardinal Stepinac kolo group will
be held in the School Hall. Following
the program, the members of the Marian
Society will serve lunch. (Donation
$10.00) All proceeds from the luncheon
will go toward the Church Restoration
Fund. All are invited to attend.
SINGING
GROUP FROM DUBROVNIK - The
Cardinal Stepinac Croatian School is
sponsoring a concert featuring the
popular singing group from Dubrovnik,
"MAESTRAL". The performance
will take place in our School Hall on
Friday, February 8 at 7 P.M. Admission
is $15.00. Tickets are available at
the rectory or from Mario at 773/
914-5020.
This preeminent vocal group was
established more than 30 years ago and
is still active. They have received
numerous awards and acknowledgements
from various social and urban
organiyations. They performed 13 times
at the famous Festival of Dalmatian
song, Croatina folk music and of
Croatian tourism in general. They
visited the Belgian Court at a
personal invitation from the Royal
couple. Their music is the music of
the sea, the hard Dalmatian stone,
Dubrovnik, and of Stradun.
As our renowned poet Luko Paljetak
puts it: "... these are the
"Maestral" singers. Close
your eyes for a moment and lsiten to
them. The Town rolls as a ship, on the
waves of their music".
