WEEKLY MEDITATION

  TWELVE SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

In today's Gospel, Our Lord gives his closest friends the admonition to "fear no one".  He goes on to tell them "nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known".  Now, I do not think Christ is talking about how television works, or even how the gnome process will work out, but He is telling us something very important. What Christ is saying not only to the twelve, but also to you and me, is that He will always be there for them - and for us.. Now what does all this mean for you and me on this 23rd day of June 2002? We have a responsibility to stand for Christ right now. We have an obligation to take care of our sisters and brothers - those who are in need, the down trodden, the sick, the homeless, the suffering. How many of you have considered working one-on-one with a child who has difficulties in school? A kind word and a simple act of kindness can go a long way with a child who seems to be lost in the learning process. Remember, children were very special to the Lord. How many of us have told our spouses, children, grandchildren, or parents that we love them no matter what with a true, unconditional love? Sometimes we forget that such a simple act can be so rewarding to those we come in contact with every day.

 THIS WEEK'S SCHEDULE

TUESDAY: 21st ANNIVERSARY OF THE APPARITIONS OF OUR LADY OF MEĐUGORJE The priests and parishioners of St. Jerome invite everyone to help honor and celebrate the 21st anniversary of the apparitions Our Lady of Mepugorje to the six children on Tuesday, June 25th, 2002 at 7:00 P.M. Recitation of the Rosary is at 6:30 P.M. Immediately after mass the dynamic Tim Staples, a nationally recognized apologist, author, and radio personality, will dramatically recount with humor and passion, his journey from Protestantism to Catholicism.
FLOWERS: If you wish to donate flowers for the mass celebrating the 21st anniversary of the apparitions of our Lady of Medjugorje on June 25, 2002, please call your florist.

NEXT SUNDAY: Second Collection - Peter's Pence This year's annual collection for the works of the Holy Father has as its theme A Listening Heart, A Helping Hand, A Better World. We are asked to join with Catholics worldwide in support of this mission. It enables our Pope to respond with a helping hand to those who suffer as a result of war, oppression, and natural disasters. Please support this special appeal. Thank you!

90th ANNIVERSARY INVITATIONS have been mailed to all parishioners and friends. Please respond as to whether or not you will be attending. This is indeed a special occasion. Few parishes reach 90 years as successfully and devotedly as ours. We are indebted to all those who came before us and carried on the journey of faith. In the spirit of thanksgiving and rejoicing we invite everyone to join the celebration! If you have not received an invitation, please let us know by calling the rectory.
SUMMERFEST 2002: Saturday, June 29, featuring: The band SPLIT and guest bands BOB& BUCO & BODA. Doors open 8P.M. at St. Jerome School Hall. Cover charge: $10

50TH ANNIVERSARY Congratulations to John & RoseMarie Odrljan. Their wedding mass took place at St. Jerome Church on June 27, 1952. We wish them many more years together. May the Lord bless them and keep them.
CHURCH RESTORATION Last week a parish meeting was held at which the final phase of our church restoration was discussed. As you can see, the church is nearly finished. The culmination of the restoration now focuses on the 2 side altars and the altar where the tabernacle rests. We recently learned that an old Irish Catholic church on the south side of Chicago will be closing. Because of that, the archdiocese is offering its furnishings to all other parishes. The furnishings include a most beautiful marble altar, a communion rail, and many other worthwhile items. A group of our parishioners enthusiastically expressed the wish that the furnishings be placed in our church. The items themselves are available at no cost; however, our parish would have to finance the cost of removal, cleaning, transportation, and placement in our church. At the parish meeting last Wednesday it was decided by individual ballot, to go ahead with this project. Besides the existing funds earmarked for the restoration, the realization of this project would require an additional $70,000.00. It was suggested at the meeting that if each family in the parish would donate $200.00, the necessary amount could be raised. Naturally, we must take into consideration the amount each family is able to afford according to its means. More information will follow in the weeks to come.

OUR 90TH ANNIVERSARY. . .RECALLING OUR PAST

IZREKE:
Potresao si temeljima grada mojega
i srušio sve što ne bijaše sazdano
na Tebi.
Na ruševinama sjedim i jecam...
Utješi me...
Reci da ceš podici ljepše hramove
i bjelokosne tornjeve
i zidove ukrasiti biserjem
od mojih suza.
Reci...
Da više ne zaplacem
Za mrtvom ljepotom
(s. Marija od Presvetog Srca)
