WEEKLY MEDITATION

HE BREATHED ON THEM
When Jesus appeared to the apostles on Easter Sunday, He breathed the Holy Spirit upon them. In Hebrew the word for "breath" and "spirit" are the same, so there is an obvious connection. We might form an image of Jesus breathing on the group of them from a distance, but there is a more revealing analogy. CPR or cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a process by which an unconscious person may be helped to breathe. Part of CPR involves mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. The person administering it clamps the victim's nostrils, making an airtight seal over his mouth, and breathes into it about twelve times per minute. It has been called "the Kiss of Life". Jesus breathed a kiss of life into the souls of his followers. We still receive that kiss from God, the Holy Spirit.

THIS SUNDAY: THE BRIDGEPORT CHORAL SOCIETY will present a Spring Concert today at 4:00 P.M. in our church. Donation at door: $10.

WEDNESDAY: Movie Series continues this evening at 7 P.M. in the small hall with the showing of the 2nd part of the biblical film Jacob. We apologize for not being able to show the film last week because of problems with the VCR.

FRIDAY: CONCERT FEATURING DRAZEN ZECIC, the popular Croatian singer and his band, will be held in our parish hall on Friday, May24, at 7:30 P.M. Admission is $25 in advance; $30 at the door; children under 12 free. Tickets available at rectory.

MARRIAGE ANNIVERSARIES During our 90th anniversary year we wish to acknowledge all of the couples in our parish who are celebrating special anniversaries (5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, etc.). Please reserve Sunday, August 25 for a special mass at 9:30 A.M. where, together, all special anniversary couples will renew their marriage vows.

MEMORIAL DAY MASS On Monday, Memorial Day, May 27th, you are invited to a special Field Mass Program at one of the cemeteries listed below. Programs are scheduled for 10:00 AM in most cemeteries with the Mass beginning at 10:30 A.M.: Holy Sepulchre, Mount Olivet, Mount Carmel, Queen of Heaven, Resurrection, St. Casimir, St. Boniface, St. Mary, St. Michael.

CONGRATULATIONS to Peter and Sandy Schurla on their 40th wedding anniversary. We are happy to know you and to share our parish life with you. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May He grant you many blessed and joyful years to come.

THE MONTH OF MAY This is the joyous month of Our Lady. As we celebrate the 90th anniversary of our parish, we would like everyone, especially during this month, to get to know more of your fellow parishioners. Therefore, we ask each of you to do the following during May. Approach someone whom you usually see in church, or see from time to time, and make the acquaintance of that person or family. Try to meet other members of our big parish family who share with you this holy meeting place.

SACRED SPACE Our church is our sacred space. It is a holy place; therefore, we must respect it as such. This means that we need to keep it clean. Please refrain from chewing gum in church, and be careful not to leave any papers, wrappers ,etc. Also, please turn off your cell phones. Thank you for your cooperation and carefulness!

OLD PHOTOS In preparation for our 90th Anniversary celebration, we are asking everyone who has old photos of parish events to bring them to the rectory. Please check to see if you or any of your family members have any that we could use.

90th ANNIVERSARY INVITATIONS During this week you will be receiving invitations to our anniversary celebration. Please respond as to whether or not you will be attending. This is indeed a special occasion. Few parishes reach 90 years as successfully and devotedly. We are indebted to all those who came before us and carried on the journey of faith. In the spirit of thanksgiving and rejoicing we invite everyone to join the celebration!

CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION On Sunday, June 2, at 10:30A.M. we will carry the eucharistic Body of Christ in procession through our local area. We invite everyone to participate in this solemn procession. Please join us.

ST. ANTHONY NOVENA The annual novena in honor of St. Anthony will begin on June 4. Mass will be celebrated each evening during the novena at 7P.M. in our church. Everyone is invited to attend this special devotion.

KOLO & TAMBURA PERFORMANCE This weekend our kolo and tambura group will be appearing at the Croatian-Canadian festival in Mississauga, Ontario. Our parish, along with other Croatian groups from Chicago, will be well represented. We congratulate our group members and wish them a safe and successful trip!

OUR 90TH ANNIVERSARY. . .RECALLING OUR PAST
In 1934 our parish hosted a visit from the archbishop of Sarajevo, Ivan Saric, who celebrated a solemn mass here on December 2.
