WEEKLY
MEDITATION
Today Jesus talks about
the sacredness of marriage, vows, and commitment. The Gospel reminds
us of the family values on which our lives and society are based.
Jesus speaks with authority and his teaching, therefore, carries the
truth. Our society is running away from both. We witnessed this
ourselves, this week in Cook County, when same sex domestic
partnership, which is not based on biblical values but on a strange
definition of feelings, acceptance, and human rights, gained legal
recognition. The beautiful realities and images of heart, family,
equality, and God are distorted! Where do we stand? Where
do you stand? Your answer might determine yours and your children's
futures. As Christians, what do we stand for? Jesus says let your
answer be yes or no. Have we ever said no?
THE
HOLY ROSARY - In his apostolic letter Rosarium Virginis
Mariae (On the Most Holy Rosary), Pope John Paul II proclaimed this
year as "The Year of the Rosary". His intent was to offer
encouragement and exhortation to the faithful "to contemplate the
face of Christ in union with his Most Holy Mother". The Holy Father
envisions the rosary and the person of the Blessed Virgin Mary as
indispensable elements of a contemplate renewal in the Church.
Cardinal George particularly stresses the importance of this prayer
and devotion. In our pews and in the bulletin you will find a
commemorative brochure with information about the rosary and why we
should pray it. Please take this to heart!
PARISH
PHOTO ALBUM Have you signed-up to take a picture for the
parish photo album? Will our album include your picture or not? We
hope that it will! There are still appointments available: Wed., Oct.
22 from 3-4:35p.m; Fri. Oct. 24 from 3:10-4:35; and Saturday. In case
we need more time to include everyone, photographs will also be taken
on Monday, October 20 and Tuesday, October 21.
POPE
JOHN PAUL II celebrates the 25th anniversary of his
pontificate this month. This occasion is being commemorated throughout
the world. Every parish is invited to offer mass in honor of the Pope
and his intentions on Thursday, October 16. We will celebrate mass
with our school children at 9 a.m. that day. We ask all who are able
to join us for this special mass.
ANNUAL
MASS ATTENDANCE COUNT Each year in October, the bishops of
America ask every parish to count the number of faithful who attend
mass. We will take a count at all the masses this weekend and again
next weekend.
