WEEKLY
MEDITATION
In these times in
which we live, we know it is difficult for many people to
understand the words of this Gospel Reading, much less follow
them. We all know very well how difficult following Jesus and
his teachings can be. This is because what he asks of us is that
we make him the most important person in our lives. He asks us
to place him above everything else, even those things and people
that we consider to be most important to us. He asks us to leave
everything behind, just as he asked the young rich man in
today=s Gospel Reading, giving up anything that will weigh us
down as we try to follow him more closely. The Lord wants us to
have a good, comfortable life. What he does not approve of is
inordinate wealth or wealth that is ill-gained. That is why he
asks us to be less reliant on material wealth and to use well
the wealth we have, enjoying it as we help others who are in
need. We should be careful so as not to allow our minds and our
hearts become attached to the need to increase our wealth, or to
the inordinate desire to acquire more and more wealth every day.
How can we follow the teachings of this Gospel Reading if all we
think of is how to make more money at whatever cost? We cannot
follow God if our mind is operating on another wavelength, and
if we are greedy and ambitious. Money does not bring happiness.
PERSONAL

like, you can purchase more pictures. The following dates are
still available: Wednesday, October 22 from 3-4:35 p.m.;

enough time to accommodate everyone on these dates, we will be
given 2 more dates: Monday, Oct. 20 and Tuesday, Oct.21. You can

POPE
JOHN PAUL II celebrates the 25th
anniversary of his pontificate this month. This
occasion is being commemorated throughout the world. Every
parish is invited to offer mass in honor of the Pope and his
intentions on Thursday, October 16.
We will celebrate mass with our school children at 9 a.m. that
day. We ask all who are able to join us for this special mass.
SECOND
COLLECTION will be taken next weekend on Mission
Sunday, October 19, for the support of Catholic missions
throughout the world. We express our gratitude and love for the
Lord in the generosity we extend to our brothers and sisters in
Christ who are dependent on others for help. The theme of
Mission Sunday is AHealing a Broken World.@ As disciples of
Christ we are called to imitate His universal love. Please
contribute to the support of the missions!
GROWING
IN FAITH, the monthly Catholic informational
publication, is in our bulletin today. We hope you will read it
and find it helpful.

have never been very good at
