WEEKLY MEDITATION

In this week's gospel reading, Jesus once again verbally jousted with the "chief priests and elders of the people", that is, the religious leaders in Jerusalem. He told them a parable, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son." Jesus went on to explain that the invited guests refused to come to the banquet. So the king said to his servants, "The feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy to come. Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find." Jesus' message to the religious leaders was clear: the chosen people, the Israelites, rejected God's invitation when they rejected the Messiah.  Because of this rejection, the invitation was offered to the Gentiles. Needless to say, the religious leaders were incensed to be told that the lowly Gentiles were now being viewed favorably by God.  In their view, the Israelites were God's chosen people (true). They also thought this meant God hated all the other pagan people (untrue).  Their problem was a limited, self-centered understanding of God's love and mercy. They just couldn't imagine that God would want to save the very people they hated.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Dear Parishioners,
We wholeheartedly thank all who participated in the solemn high mass celebrating the 90th anniversary of our parish's existence. The commemoration of 90 years of any institution or occasion, especially for people who have emigrated from their homeland, is a great event. To all those who took part in the mass and who helped to make our celebration a success, we again extend a great thank you! To those who did not attend the anniversary mass we express our regret. We apologize to Mrs. Diane Dalich for inadvertently omitting the "Ave Maria" hymn she was to sing after Communion. Our heartfelt appreciation is offered to all who attended the gala banquet at the Sheraton Hotel. It was wonderful to see 700 people gathered in honor of our parish. To all who helped, who worked so long and selflessly to make this an exceptional occasion, we remain devoted and grateful. Sometimes words cannot accurately express the gratitude we feel.  Two more spiritual events are planned before we conclude our 90th year:

  • 90TH ANNIVERSARY PILGRIMAGE Saturday, October 19th, is the date for our parish pilgrimage to Holy Hill, Wisconsin. We will depart by bus about 8:00 A.M., and return about 5:00 P.M. Please call the rectory to reserve a place on the bus.  Cost is $15.
  • 90th ANNIVERSARY RETREAT A parish retreat is being planned for November 8th and 9th. We expect to have a special guest priest conduct this seminar. The retreat will be for parishioners only. More information will be forthcoming.

OCTOBER MASS ATTENDANCE COUNT For the 4 weekends in October every parish is required to take a count of the number of people attending masses. This is an important source of information for planning and decision-making. We appreciate your cooperation in taking this count.

"CROATIAN WOMAN" SOCIETY is sponsoring its annual fashion show on Sunday, October 20, at the Royalty West located at 8675 S. Archer Ave. in Willow Springs. Doors open at 12:30 P.M. Tickets are $35 per person. For tickets and information call Kata Mulac (773/955-3965) or Nevenka Jurkovic (773/525-8571).

Mrs. Jean Zekich donated two altar cloths in memory of her husband Joseph Zekich. We thank her for this thoughtful and generous gift. May she enjoy God's blessing and comfort.

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT is held every Thursday from 7 P.M. to 9 P.M. Please join us for this spiritual encounter with Christ in the Eucharist. He awaits you!

SECOND COLLECTION for World Mission Sunday will be taken next week at all masses. More than two-thirds of the world's people have yet to hear the "good news" of Jesus Christ. The missionary work of the Church depends on each one of us. Please be as generous as your means allow and continue to pray for the work of the missionaries. Thank you for your support!

Apartment for Rent: 6 rooms, call 773 536 - 4383 after 6:00 P.M.
