WEEKLY
MEDITATION
This
parable about the workers in the
vineyard has always been a tough one
to swallow. There just doesn't seem to
be any fairness in it, and, as we all
know, "fairness" is what
it's all about in the United States
these days. Even after the Gospel when
we say, "Praise to You, Lord
Jesus Christ", many of us think,
"I do give praise to Jesus Christ
but it still isn't fair!"
It's so easy for us to identify with
the workers who've worked all day long
in the hot sun, especially if we've
worked all of our lives. How unfair
can you get? The boss is giving the
same pay to people who worked only one
hour as he gave to the people who
worked twelve hours!
Perhaps, in order to get a better
handle on what God is trying to tell
us in this parable, we've got to look
at what it's not about. It's not about
economics, or a just wage, or
labor-management relationships. Most
of all, it's not about fairness. This
parable is about generosity and mercy!

90th Anniversary commemoration, we
will visit the graves of our deceased
parishioners in the Chicago land area.
Our deceased are a part of our parish
community. In remembering them, we
recall the many precious moments of
the past 90 years of our parish's
history. The schedule for cemetery
visits is as follows:
-
Resurrection, September 28 at 10 A.M.
in front of the main mausoleum
-
Mt. Carmel, September 28 at 10 A.M. in
front of the Chicago Bishops'
mausoleum
-
Queen of Heaven, September 28 at 11A.M.
in front of the main entrance
-
St. Mary, November 2 at 10 A.M. in front
of the cemetery office
The priest will arrive at the
appointed time. We ask that you come
with your families on that day to join
us in prayer. If anyone has a deceased
family member at a different cemetery,
please let us know. We would be happy
to visit those graves.

LETTER
FROM A PARISHIONER
"Dear St. Jerome's, Life is a
mystery that we will never fully
understand. While we are here we go
through so many inexplicable, and also
so many easily misunderstood emotions,
that the common link where I found
peace, no matter what I was feeling,
was at our church. I really can't
explain it, but there is something
very special about this place,
something that allows me to be whole
and complete. Knowing we are all just
passing through life, it is so
comforting to know that we have a
place here on earth that is all good.
No strings attached! Happy anniversary
and many, many more!"
90TH
ANNIVERSARY... RECALLING OUR PAST
In 1996 Fr. Joe Grbes became our
assistant pastor. Fr. Jozo Grubisic
was named as pastor in 1997. The major
job of renovating the church awaited
both of the priests and their
parishioners. Plans were completed and
approved by the bishop for work that
would cost $295,000. Eventually, in
1998, the entire facade of the front
of the church was replaced with gray
stone slabs, and the bell tower was
also renovated.
