EVIL
These
days we cannot but think about evil. We all feel that
evil is something that should
not exist.
Nevertheless, there is no area of human life in which
its presence is not felt.
The discrepancy between what is and what ought
to be has always called for an explanation in the
account that mankind has sought to give of itself and
its surroundings. Evil can be seen through two
different forms: the nature of evil and moral evil.
With regard to the nature of evil, it should be
observed that evil is of at least two kinds --
physical and moral. Physical evil includes all that
causes harm to man.
Physical evils directly due to nature are
sickness, accident, death, etc.
Poverty, oppression, and some forms of disease
are instances of evil arising from
imperfect social organization. Mental suffering
such as anxiety, disappointment, and
remorse, and the limitation of intelligence
which prevents humans beings from
attaining
the full comprehension of their environment,
are congenital forms of evil.
Moral evil is the deviation of human will from
the prescriptions of the moral order and the action
which results from that deviation. Such action, when
it proceeds solely from ignorance, is not to be
classified as moral evil.
We
Remember
On
September 11th the whole world was shaken to its
foundations by the savage acts of terrorism. A deep
dark cloud of sadness lingers over us.We pray for the
fatherless child....We pray for the motherless
child....We pray for the childless father....We pray
for the childless mother....We pray for the now lonely
friend of a victim.....We pray for the
rescuers......We pray for the traumatized
workers......We pray for the sad and angry
people o f N.Y. and Washington.....We pray for
the world......Lord, please heal all our suffering. We
express our deepest sympathies for all those touched
by this devastation and we pray: Dear Father Almighty,
As we mourn for all the souls who died Tuesday in the
attack, we ask You to extend the full portion of Your
mercy on their souls. We also beg of You to send the
Holy Spirit, the Comforter, into the lives of their
surviving relatives and friends. You, Father, and You
alone, have the power to bring good out of evil. We
humbly implore You to guide the hands, feet, and minds
of all rescue workers, and police and fire workers who
are responding to this crisis these days. Protect
them! Guide
them! Help
them save lives! We
will remember the victims of this evil attack this
Sunday at a special 9:30 mass at which all the
school children will
participate, and also at the 11 A.M.
Croatian mass. We also invite you to join our
Prayer Group on
Monday evening at 7:00 P.M. for a vigil, rosary,
prayers, and meditations held in the church.
90thAnniversary
Parish Banquet-October 6, 2002
As
you know , during the past few years we have held our
annual parish banquet in our school hall. The banquet
has been a huge success and
an opportunity for us to come together and
celebrate socially as a parish. Next year St. Jerome
will be celebrating its 90th anniversary as
a parish.
Plans are being made to hold a special banquet
on October 6th 2002, a year from
now, to celebrate this memorable occasion. At
the recent St. Jerome Parish Council meeting, the
planning of the 90th anniversary
celebration was discussed.
The Council decided that in light of the amount
of time and work involved in planning next year=s
special event, it would be appropriate not to have our
regular annual parish banquet this year. We all agreed
that our focus should be on planning and organizing
next year's special celebration. As members of the
Parish Council we are excited about this upcoming
event,
and trust that St. Jerome's Parish will again
join together to make next year's 90th
Anniversary celebration a huge success. Additional
information regarding this event
will be provided to all parishioners as it
becomes available.

Jerome Parish Council

troupe of actors is detained in Montreal.
Out of respect for the terrible loss of life
