WEEKLY MEDITATION

God made himself known to us through a family, the most perfect unity of love, a community of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is perfect harmony and happiness. Man is made in the image and likeness of God. This means that God entrusted his unity and harmony to his creation, and in a special way gave man dominion over all the gifts of creation. Furthermore, human beings were created as males and females, made as persons who cannot live alone, but only as part of a community. No one enters this world alone. God's plan was one of love - that everyone would have a mother and a father, be dependent upon one another, know one another, and be partners in the community of love. Everyone owes his life and upbringing to another. Everyone needs someone to help him reach maturity. Parents are the first to do this. Then come friends and a wider circle of acquaintances that man recognizes as the family of humanity.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

MASS OF THANKSGIVING will be celebrated on December 31, 2002 at 6:00 P.M. The last day of the year is a day of thanksgiving and a day of planning - thanksgiving to the One who gave you all of your days and the years of your life, and a moment to make plans with the only One who can give you another day, a future, and eternity. Let us not forget this opportunity to give thanks at holy mass on New Year's Eve at 6P.M. and also at the 7:30A.M., 9:30 A.M. and 11A.M masses on New Year's Day, January 1, 2003!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! We are at the end of another year. This is an opportunity to analyze our actions during the course of the past year. For all the good we have done, we thank God. For all our sins and offenses, we make amends and endeavor to improve in the new year. May your new year be filled with the peace and blessings of God, who alone gives, life, hope and peace. May it be a happy one!

THANK YOU! Dear parishioners, we are at the end of another year. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you for all that you have done for our parish during this year. Thank you for participating in the sacraments, for coming to mass, and for being a part of our parish community. Thanks to all who helped organize, and to all who took part in our 90th anniversary celebration. Thank you to all who came to our monthly lectures, attended our spiritual retreat, and made the parish pilgrimage. Thank you for all the love you have shown during the year. Thank you for all of your gifts and donations, especially towards the renovation of the church. Thank you to Louis Scalise and Ken Zekich for the beautiful job of decorating our church for the Christmas season. We sincerely thank you for the personal gifts with which you expressed your love and gratitude to us, your priests.

HELPING OTHERS At Christmas time we think especially of the gift of life as the most beautiful and richest gift of God. To have life means to have everything. With this in mind, we would like to tell you of an opportunity to help save the life of a young woman from our community. Marijana Cubelic, a young wife and mother of 3 children, is seriously ill and has been diagnosed with non Hodgkins lymphoma. Her only hope is a bone marrow transplant. Our parish will organize a blood sample drive to help her. On Sunday, January 5, medical technicians will be in our hall to take blood (only 1 teaspoon) from those willing to be donors. If your blood is a match, and you have no chronic illnesses, you will be asked to come for an examination and give blood cells to Marijana. This procedure is very simple. You would spend one day in the hospital to perform the procedure, and then go home. Your blood cells renew themselves every day. There are no side effects from this procedure. You lose nothing, and Marijana might gain life!

CHRISTMAS FLOWERS We thank all our parishioners and friends who donated flowers to decorate our church so beautifully for the Christmas season. God bless you for your thoughtfulness and generosity.

BLESSING OF HOMES Our priests will be available to bless homes after Christmas. If you would like one of the priests to come to your home, please call the rectory to schedule a date and time for this beautiful Catholic tradition.

BRIDGEPORT CHORAL SOCIETY will present a holiday season concert in our church on Sunday, January 5, 2003 at 4 P.M. They will be accompanied by violins, trumpet, timpani, and organ. Donation is $10 at the door. Twelve years old and under are free.
