ASH
WEDNESDAY
Few holy days in the
liturgical calendar are so
powerfully characterized by such a
visible sign
that the holy day takes the
sign for its title.
One of these holy days is Ash
Wednesday, which leads us into the
spirit of Lent.
The name Ash Wednesday is
taken from the ashes which the
priest uses to make the sign of the
cross on the foreheads of the
faithful, proclaiming, "Remember
man, you are dust and unto dust you
shall return".
In recent times this
admonition is often replaced by the
call to "turn away from sin and
believe in the Gospel".
Conversion from sin is, in
other words, one of the central
teachings of the Bible, which,
especially during Lent, is placed
before us.
Most importantly, ashes, as
such a major
symbol of this day, don't
just loan a name to the title of
this day, but are an integral part
of the ritual of receiving ashes.
Besides the fact that Ash
Wednesday marks the beginning of one
of the most significant seasons of
the church year, it
also effects a great change
and turning point in the conduct of
many Christians.
In sharp contrast, Shrove
Tuesday highlights a mood of festive
celebration that will, the very next
day, radically change and immerse us
in
the solemnity of Lent.
Some, because of the
importance of Ash Wednesday, will
refer to this ritual as the "8th
Sacrament".
Therefore, it is hoped that
each one of us will make time and
and find a way to celebrate
mass on Ash Wednesday and receive
ashes as a sign of fasting and
penance.
Masses
on Ash Wednesday will be at
7:30 A.M. and 7 P.M.
STATIONS OF THE
CROSS
The WAY OF THE CROSS will
be held each Friday in English at 7
P.M.
Please note that next Friday,
February 15, it will held at 6:30
P.M.
due to the lecture given by
Fr. Mike Yakaitis that begins at 7
P.M.
This is an opportunity to
pray the Stations together as a
traditional Lenten spiritual
exercise, and then gather to hear
about sacred scripture. Everyone is
welcome!

A parish council with the pastor as its president was also founded.
The first members were

Medic, Josip Zidaric, and
Bozo Zuanic.
