WEEKLY MEDITATION

When we read today's Gospel we can wonder what sort of a community the people of Nazareth were to have turned their back on Jesus. Yet, we can be guilty of this same type of behavior. We imitate the people of Nazareth when we turn our backs on the local prophets who are the presence of God in our midst. Sometimes we do not recognize the obvious - that God is present among people. Often when the truth stares us in the face it is too familiar for us to recognize it. God moves in mysterious ways and is most likely to be present in our nearest and dearest, and in our neighbors. 

God is present in the ordinary bits and pieces of life and shows up more often than we think. He is not apart from the world. We meet him in every person, place, and moment that comes our way. The trouble with us is that we often take for granted the great gifts of goodness that are all around us. Let's not take for granted the presence of God among us. The Gospel is asking us to say thanks and give honor and recognition to God in all the ways He is with us.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

BAPTISM We welcome into our parish family Sophia Margaret Grassano, daughter of John and Margaret Grassano. Her godparents are Anthony and Ann Contino. Congratulations!

WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES If you are celebrating a special anniversary year (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30.....50) please let us know. A wedding anniversary mass will be celebrated in our church on Sunday, September 21, at 9:30 a.m.

PARISH PHOTO ALBUM Later this year we will undertake the project of compiling a parish family photo album. Over several weeks' time, beginning in October, a professional photographer will come to our parish to take pictures of our parishioners. More information about this project will be given next month.

PREPARATION FOR VELIKA GOSPA
Preparations have already begun for our parish feast on August 15. We are asking everyone to help in whatever way possible. Please let us know how you would like to be of help.

We are especially in need of 6 people who would be able to help barbecue the lambs. We realize that Velika Gospa falls on a working day; therefore, we encourage you to take that day off so that we can participate in the mass and procession as a parish family. We await hearing from you to volunteer your help!

ST. JEROME SCHOOL TUITION SUNDAY
Tuition Sunday will be held on July 13 from 9 a.m. until noon, and on Monday, July 14 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. The first tuition payment of the 2003-04 school year is due then. Please call the school office if you have any questions. We will also be registering new students during those hours. If you have questions about registering your child, please contact our principal, Mr. Trumblay, at 312/ 842-7668

ST. LUCY - ST. JEROME FOOTBALL REGISTRATION Have you heard the news? St. Lucy and St. Jerome parishes will be teaming up to start a football team this season. The newly formed SLJ Football Association will be holding registration for the widget and varsity teams on Saturday, July 12 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in St. Lucy's Church hall (3022 S. Wells). Registration is open for boys entering 4th through 8th grades. There will be a $75 fee payable at the time of registration. A parent's signature is required. You must attend St. Lucy or St. Jerome schools, or be enrolled in CCD classes at either parish. Questions can be answered at the time of registration.

VELIKA GOSPA COMMITTEE MEETING will be held on Wednesday, July 30 at 7:00 P.M. All of the committee members are requested to be present.
