WEEKLY MEDITATION

Corpus Christi, the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, is a festival for pondering with thanks God's hospitality to us, the supreme and final gift of His love. The offering on the cross of our Lord is fully effective. We remember with gratitude the promise He made to be with His friends and followers as their food and nourishment for their pilgrimage through life. All of us are people on a journey facing the trials and sufferings of everyday happenings. What better companion can we have for support than the presence of Jesus? Although we have not yet reached our final destination, traveling in His company is a powerful assurance that we are on the right road. He is food for our souls and the spiritual help we need to make us break the chains that bind us to this earth. Holy Communion is the remedy for our daily faults and not the reward for sanctity attained. It is not because we are holy that we receive Jesus, but because we wish to change and to become like him. What is demanded of us is that we share the Eucharist with others, for we make our pilgrimage through this valley of tears as a community and not as isolated individuals.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

COMING EVENTS:

  • Today, June 22 is Corpus Christi Sunday. We will have a solemn procession with the Holy Eucharist after 9:30 a.m. mass. We ask everyone to participate in this public honoring of the Body of Christ.

  • Wednesday, June 25 we will commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the apparitions in Medjugorje with a mass at 7 p.m. presided over by Fr. Marko Puljic, Custos of the Croatian Franciscans.

QUEEN OF PEACE H.S. Congratulations to Gina Balzano and Sherri J. Gondek, graduates of our school, who made the "B" Honor Roll for the 3rd marking period..

WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES If you are celebrating a special anniversary year (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30.....50) please let us know.  A wedding anniversary mass will be celebrated in our church on Sunday, September 21, at 9:30 a.m.

PETER'S PENCE On Sunday, June 29, our parish will participate in the Peter's Pence Collection for the works of the Holy Father. This collection enables the Holy Father to respond to requests for emergency funds from the most disadvantaged throughout the world. Please pray for the success of the good works of this ministry and contribute whatever you can to sustain this worthy cause.

PARISH PHOTO ALBUM Later this year we will undertake the project of compiling a parish family photo album. Over several weeks' time, beginning in October, a professional photographer will come to our parish to take pictures of our parishioners. More information about this project will be given next month.

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT takes place each Thursday evening from 7 to 9 PM in our church. All are invited to come and adore Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. To have time for God and to give ourselves to Him is an important expression of our faith. He relishes our company!

REMINDER Please dress appropriately when you come to church. We must remember that the church is a holy place of worship. It is not a place where we can dress as we do in other areas. A dignified place requires dignified attire.

ST. BARBARA PARISH will hold its annual picnic on Sunday, August 3. They are looking for crafters who would be interested in selling their items. If interested, call Mary Murray at 312/842-7979.
