WEEKLY MEDITATION

Pentecost bannerOver the past seven weeks since Easter we have been celebrating in joyful manner the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, and recalling his many appearances to the apostles. As they recognized his presence, their hearts burned within them and they were filled with comfort, reassurance, inner peace, and strength. Today is the feast of Pentecost, which recalls the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles in the form of a roaring wind and tongues of fire.

The first reading describes the spectacular baffling effect produced on the disciples by the coming of the Holy Spirit. The change in their lifestyle was startling, as the Spirit urged them to be their very best selves. They threw aside caution, were no longer afraid, and rushed out to begin their mission of preaching the Good News, boldly proclaiming their faith in Christ crucified. Suddenly there was no longer uncertainty. Everything fell into place and made sense.  At that moment the church was born. The spirit of God filled the disciples with new hope and courage. They received the power and strength to set off into the world and enthusiastically continue the work which Christ had begun.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

FEAST OF ST. ANTHONY will be celebrated on Friday, June 13, at the Croatian Franciscan Monastery on Drexel Blvd. with Mass at 7 p.m. followed by a special blessing for children. Also, the Croatian Ethnic Institute will be open to visitors that evening.

THE PROBLEM OF ALCOHOL - Are you having a problem with alcohol? Do you have a desire to stop drinking?  Our parish is organizing meetings internationally recognized as "Alcoholics Anonymous".  Closed meetings are only for those who have a desire to stop drinking. Weekly closed meetings will begin on Thursday, June 5 at 7:30 p. m. in the Small Hall.  For others who are interested in learning more about the 12 Step program of A.A., we will be hosting open meetings on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. beginning in July.
This world renowned 12-Step program has helped thousands of people. If you would like help, or know of someone who wants to be helped, attend these meetings. WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES If you are celebrating a special anniversary year (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30.....50) please let us know.  A wedding anniversary mass will be celebrated in our church on Sunday, September 21, at 9:30 a.m.

REMINDER - Please dress appropriately when you come to church. We must remember that the church is a holy place of worship. It is not a place where we can dress as we do in other areas. A dignified place requires dignified attire. Please take this guidance seriously!

COMING EVENTS:
Next Sunday is Father's Day. We pray that day for all those to whom the Lord has given the gift of fatherhood.
Sunday, June 22nd is Corpus Christi Sunday. We will have a solemn procession with the Holy Eucharist after 9:30 a.m. mass. We ask everyone to participate in this public honoring of the Body of Christ.
Wednesday, June 25th we will commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the apparitions in Medjugorje.
