WEEKLY MEDITATION

Father is GodHOLY TRINITY
When we refer to God as "Trinity",
we are saying more than we can possibly understand about who God is.
Our language exceeds our understanding. Yet, when we speak it, hear it, and live it, together we reveal what was revealed to us and discover just a little more of what is endlessly knowable. It is then that we reveal to ourselves a little more of that endless mystery in whose image we are made.

FATHER'S DAY A Father is...
Someone who is just, in a world of inequality....
Someone who is tolerant in an unforgiving society...
Someone who gives approval in a world of indifference...
Someone who encourages when self?esteem is low...
Someone who disciplines in a world of lawlessness...
Someone who loves when many hate.....
A father is due honor and respect, for he is the foundation of the family.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

THE PROBLEM OF ALCOHOL Are you having a problem with alcohol? Do you have a desire to stop drinking? Our parish is organizing meetings internationally recognized as "Alcoholics Anonymous". Closed meetings are only for those who have a desire to stop drinking. Weekly closed meetings will begin on Thursday, June 5 at 7:30 p. m. in the Small Hall. For others who are interested in learning more about the 12 Step program of A.A., we will be hosting open meetings on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. beginning in July. Everyone is welcome to attend the open meetings.

WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES If you are celebrating a special anniversary year (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30.....50) please let us know. A wedding anniversary mass will be celebrated in our church on Sunday, September 21, at 9:30 a.m.

COMING EVENTS:

  • Today is Father's Day. We pray today for all those to whom the Lord has given the gift of fatherhood.

  • Sunday, June 22 is Corpus Christi Sunday. We will have a solemn procession with the Holy Eucharist after 9:30 a.m. mass. We ask everyone to participate in this public honoring of the Body of Christ.

  • Wednesday, June 25 we will commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the apparitions in Medjugorje with a mass at 7 p.m. presided over by Fr. Marko Puljic, Custos of the Croatian Franciscans.

FOUNDER'S SAINTHOOD The Sisters Adorers of the Blood of Christ established and ran our parish school for 80 years. Last month their entire order celebrated a rare honor and blessing. The foundress of their religious congregation, Maria de Mattias, was declared a saint by Pope John Paul II. St. Maria founded the order of nuns in 1834 in Acuto, Italy. We congratulate all of the sisters on the canonization of their foundress, and share their joy in this holy event.

THANK YOU to the following people who donated flowers during the St. Anthony novena: Josie Hansen, Ann Contino, Michelle Hansen, Julie Perisin DeCaro, Connie Marnell, Mary Ann Saracco.

OUR DECEASED Zorka (Peso) Rapaich (73) passed away on Wednesday, June 11. We extend our sincere sympathy to her children, her sisters Mary Perkovich and Millie Balich, and to all of her family and friends. May she rest in God's peace.

PETER'S PENCE On Sunday, June 29, our parish will participate in the Peter's Pence Collection for the works of the Holy Father. This collection enables the Holy Father to respond to requests for emergency funds from the most disadvantaged throughout the world.

THE HISTORY OF FATHER'S DAY The idea for creating a day for children to honor fathers was begun in Spokane, Washington by a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd. She thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Since she was raised by her father, Henry Jackson Smart, after her mother died, Sonora wanted him to know how special he was to her. Since Sonora's Father was born in June, she chose to hold the first Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on the 19th of June, 1910. President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father's Day in 1924.
