WEEKLY
MEDITATION
The
sending out of the 12 Apostles was the
beginning of the church's mission to the
world. Down the centuries ordinary people
have been called in the same way, to win
souls for Christ and to gather them into his
church. If the word of God is to reach all
people then everyone who hears it must make
it known. The Good News of salvation is not
intended to be guarded jealously, but to be
spread around and handed down. Every
baptized Christian is called to accomplish
this work of spreading the gospel. The
message of salvation is offered to all but
it is not forced on anyone, for it is a
personal choice to accept or reject the call
of God. Today we have the privilege of
responding to Christ's invitation to be
fruitful bearers of his Good News. Becoming
a servant of God in a society where
selfishness is part of the foundation
structure is indeed a tall order. This
invitation to a more dedicated life is very
challenging and demands that we have a
caring heart. Christ wants us to be part of
His saving mission. We are his hands by the
work we do, His tongue by the words we
speak, and His feet by the places and people
we visit.
SCHEDULE
OF EVENTS
WEDDING
ANNIVERSARIES If you are
celebrating a special anniversary year (5,
10, 15, 20, 25, 30.....50) please let us
know. A wedding anniversary mass will be
celebrated in our church on Sunday, September
21, at 9:30 a.m.
PARISH
PHOTO ALBUM Later this year we
will undertake the project of compiling a
parish family photo album. Over several
weeks' time, beginning in October, a
professional photographer will come to our
parish to take pictures of our parishioners.
More information about this project will be
given next month.
PREPARATION
FOR VELIKA GOSPA
Preparations have already begun for our
parish feast on August 15. We
are asking everyone to help in whatever way
possible. Please let us know how you would
like to be of help. We are especially in
need of 6 people who would be able to help
barbecue the lambs. We realize that Velika
Gospa falls on a working day; therefore, we
encourage you to take that day off so that
everyone can participate in the mass and
procession as a parish family. We await
hearing from you to volunteer your help!

JEROME SCHOOL TUITION DAYS
Tuition payment days will be held on Sunday,
July 13 from 9 a.m. until noon, and on
Monday, July 14 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. The
first tuition payment of the 2003-04 school
year is due then. Please call the school
office if you have any questions. We will
also be registering new students during
those hours. If you have questions about
registering your child, please contact our
principal, Mr. Trumblay, at 312/ 842-7668
VELIKA
GOSPA COMMITTEE MEETING will be
held on Wednesday, July 30 at 7:00 P.M. All
of the committee members are requested to be
present.
GROWING
IN FAITH In today's bulletin you
will find an insert entitled Growing in
Faith. We call your attention to this
publication that addresses several topics of
interest to Catholics, such as why we
believe in the Bible and how to
"dress" appropriately for Mass.

BARBARA PARISH SUMMERFEST The
annual parish picnic will be held on Sunday,
August 3. All are invited to come to the
festivities at 2859 S. Throop St. from 1
p.m. to 9 p.m. to enjoy fun activities for
children, bingo, miniature golf, food,
spirits, raffles, games, and live
entertainment by Nino
Folino and Bittersweet.
 ADORATION
OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT takes
place each Thursday evening from 7 to
9 PM in our church. All are invited to
come and adore Jesus in the Holy
Eucharist. To have time for God and to
give ourselves to Him is an important
expression of our faith. He relishes
our company!
