WEEKLY MEDITATION

The Gospels are littered with parables. This was Jesus' favorite method of teaching. Among the rabbis at the time of Jesus was an attitude almost of reverence towards the parable. So when Jesus adopted this method of teaching he was following a tradition. Jesus use parables as an effective way of teaching. Those who were open to him received more. Those who had closed their minds against him received less. The fault lay not with Jesus but with the receiver.
A seed is a marvelous thing - it can make barren ground fruitful. But a seed is an extremely weak and vulnerable thing. It depends entirely on the kind of soil in which it is sown. If the soil is lacking, the seed will come to nothing; if the soil is good, it will produce a rich harvest. So it is with a word. A word is a powerful thing. It can comfort, inspire, teach, correct, challenge, change a life... or it can come to nothing. It is completely dependent on the attitude of the one who hears it.

THIS WEEK'S SCHEDULE

TODAY: MISSION SUNDAY Every year our parish welcomes a missionary, a priest or a nun. This weekend we welcome... (Daughters of Divine Love Congregation). The sisters are engaged in a variety of apostolates in different parts of the world including: USA, Cuba, Jamaica, Germany, England, Italy, Switzerland, Nigeria Gabon, Cameroon and Kenya. Their apostolate includes working among the very poor of our societies: the rejected, the homeless, challenged children and adults in homes and in the streets....May the Lord bless them in their good work. Our second collection today will be for their missionary work. Thank you for your generosity!

INVITATIONS: Dear parishioners! We have learned that some of you have not received our 90th Anniversary invitation. Please let us know if you would like to receive one. We have extended the July 1st response. Please confirm your attendance as soon as possible.

Please plan to attend and show our unity and devotion as we celebrate mass, participate in the procession, and enjoy the festivities of the day. Invite your friends, neigbors, relatives....You will receive the annual letter regarding the details for this feast sometime in the next few days.

OUR 90TH ANNIVERSARY. . . RECALLING OUR PAST
Fr. Steve Raich succedeed Fr. Vitomir and remained as the pastor until 1967. At that time he renovated the rectory according to his simplicity. His successor Fr. Thedore Benkovic known for his good sense of humor and openness was the pastor from 1967-1969. He took good care of the sick and the old in the parish. He and his associate Fr. Dominick Coric worked hard to pay the school loan.

Thought of the Week
