Today's
readings talk about wisdom. What is
wisdom? What is that gift, so highly
prized in both the new and the old
testaments? It is the power to judge
rightly. It is the ability to take all
our values in life, put them in proper
order, then make correct judgments
about them, based on the higher
values. Solomon thought of wisdom as
the ability to discern right from
wrong. He asked God, "Give your
servant an understanding heart to
judge your people and to distinguish
right from wrong." Solomon knew
that of all the decisions he would be
called on to make, none could be more
important than judging right from
wrong, for when we make such
judgments, we are putting in first
place the kingdom of God; we are
buying a treasure of great worth; we
are purchasing a pearl of great
price...
- Reflection
on VELIKA GOSPA PROCESSION(2)
Velika
Gospa Assumption Feast
is a day of obligation. For many
years our devoted parishioners
have taken off a day of work for
this special occasion to honor Our
Lady. They would leave everything
behind and come to the church. To
come to church that day was coming
to the mother. This feast day
brings about a sense of sacredness
for this place and for many of our
parishioners it has become an
important part of their life. The
faithful also come from afar to
pay homage to Our Lady, attend the
High Mass, light a candle and
share in the festivities. Today,
we remember those beautiful
traditions and with renewed hearts
we search for them again. May
Velika Gospa this year be again an
occasion for thanksgiving to Our
Lady, an experience of the heart,
bringing about a deep feeling of
joy and happiness. Invite your
friends to share with you this
joyous celebration!
- Visiting
the Sick
Before every major feast day, we
try to visit our sick. That is
what we will be doing before the
feast of Velika Gospa. If you know
of anyone who is sick, anyone who
needs to receive the Sacraments,
or anyone who would like us to
visit them, please call us at the
rectory. We will be visiting the
sick on Saturday, August 10th
starting at 9:00 AM.

OUR 90TH
ANNIVERSARY. . .
RECALLING OUR PAST
Fr. Marko Kozina was succeeded by Fr.
Paul Maslac, (1976-1979). Together
with his assistants, Fr. Leon Galic,
and Fr. Slavko Soldo, (1977-1979), Fr.
Paul carried out his duties as pastor
with an open heart and opened his
doors to all of his parishioners. All
felt and appreciated his attitude and,
as a result, felt the need to
intensify their own efforts for the
good of the parish. The year 1977 saw
the largest number of baptisms since
1931 (77). A new kindergarten was
introduced. The Croatian School
received the designation as a model
Croatian School from HISAK-Croatian
Schools of America and Canada, while
at the same time, the Croatian
Language was recognized as an official
subject to be taught in the Public
High Schools of Chicago as an elective
subject having its own qualifying test
which was structured by Fr. Slavko
Soldo.
