OUT OF LOVE

The story is told that one day Mother Teresa and some of her Missionary Sisters of Charity were making the rounds through the streets of Calcutta when they came across a man near death, lying in the gutter. He was filthy, dressed in rags, and full of sores. While flies swarmed around, Mother Teresa immediately went up to him, spoke to him, and embraced him. She began to tend to the sores on his body. Soon a passerby came along and became ill at the sight of the man. He commented to Mother Teresa, "I wouldn't do that for a million dollars." Mother responded immediately, "Neither would I." Obviously, monetary gain was not what motivated this Saint of Calcutta. In her writings, Mother Teresa often quoted Jesus in today's Gospel, when she wrote, "Jesus said, ‘Love one another. Such as my love has been for you, so must your love be for each other.’ "

CROATIAN CATHOLIC UNION OF USA AND CANADA

which is a fraternal benefit society, will mark the 80th Anniversary of its establishment and continuous work with the celebration of a Mass of Thanksgiving and Jubilee Banquet in Chicago, Illinois on Sunday, May 20, 2001.The Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving will be led by His Excellency Archbishop of Zadar, Ivan Prendja, who is also the Vice President of the Croatian Bishops Conference and the Director of Caritas Croatia. The Mass will be concelebrated by the Croatian clergy from the USA and Canada at St. Jerome Parish in Chicago on May 20th at 11:00 A.M.Following the Mass there will be a reception and banquet at Lexington Hall, beginning at 2:00 P. STORY

It was a bitterly cold day in a western city. A small boy stood shivering on a steel grate in the sidewalk. His clothes were thin and tattered. A woman, appropriately dressed for the weather, stopped and engaged the youngster in conversation. He was indeed a child of the street. The compassionate stranger took him to a clothing store and outfitted him from head to foot, including cap, scarf and gloves. The boy was filled with gratitude. He could not thank her enough. As they said good-bye and walked in opposite directions, the elated boy turned back to ask, "Are you God's mother?" The gentle woman answered, "Oh no! I'm just a child of God." Where upon the smiling boy remarked, "I knew you were related!"

OUR DECEASED

On Wednesday, May 2, ANA KOZINA (63) passed away in Slavonski Brod, Croatia. Ana is the sister of Father Mark Kozina. To Fr. Mark, his sisters, their families, and friends, we express our heartfelt condolences. May she rest in peace.
