Corpus Christi

For many centuries this feast was one of the most popular in the Church. It was celebrated by carrying the Blessed Sacrament in procession through the streets. Apparently that tradition has fallen by the wayside today, especially in the United States. When this feast was established it had a twofold focus, but, for whatever reason, the focus that received emphasis was the Real Presence of Jesus under the appearance of bread and wine. The other meaning, on which I'm going to focus, is that the Body of Christ (Corpus Christi) refers to the whole people of God - us - you and me. The Body of Christ in the Eucharist is there so that we might be the Body of Christ in the world. To perhaps put it in a different way, the "Jesus-presence" in the Eucharist is for the sake of the "Jesus-presence" in the world through us. The Real Presence in the Eucharist is there to make us the Real Presence in the world. We aren't expected to be a Mother Teresa, or an Oscar Romero, or a Padre Pio, or any other 'great' saint for that matter. We can, however, reflect on the lives of some of the saints and try to emulate them. All of us come from different backgrounds and have different gifts from the Lord. Jesus just wants to blend Himself into our lives so that we can bring Him into our world. What I'm trying to say-what this feast is trying to say - is that we must realize that we are not here alone. Because of our baptism, we are one with believers all over the world. We break bread with them wherever they are. None of us are just innocent bystanders. We are connected, via this feast, to people who are sick, or in prison, or enslaved, or whatever. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ. That is the feast's original intent.

MEDJUGORJE 20TH ANNIVERSARY MASS will be celebrated on Monday, June 25th at 7:00 P.M. Our main celebrant will be Fr. Paul Maslac, O.F.M., our former pastor, and currently the pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Milwaukee.

Prayer for Fathers

Dear Heavenly Father, we ask that You bless all fathers. Grace them with your wisdom, your strength, your forbearance, and your mercy. Let their lives be a testimony to your justice, but most of all, to your constant love. Grant that our nation and all the world come to revere the Amanly virtues@ of honesty, perseverance, and faith, and welcome our fathers who have preceded us into eternal life, confident of your favor, your understanding, and eternal happiness in the company of You and your saints. HAPPY FATHER=S DAY TO ALL OUR FATHERS!

Lighten up...One Sunday morning a little girl in her Sunday best was running so she wouldn't be late for church. As she ran she kept praying, "Dear God, please don't let me be late to church. Please don't let me be late to church..." As she was running she tripped and fell. When she got back up she began praying again..."Please, God, don't let me be late to church - but don't shove me either!"
